Liberia Trade & Investment Office in Canada Secures Over US$522,000 in Medical Supplies for John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital

The Liberia Trade and Investment Office in Canada has successfully secured over US$522,000 worth of medical supplies for the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Memorial Hospital in Monrovia. This significant donation, made possible through the generous support of Dr. Ken Singh, President of Atlas Cargo in Toronto, Canada, marks a pivotal step towards enhancing the delivery of healthcare services in Liberia.

The medical supplies include essential items such as syringes with needles, isolation gowns, face masks, sterilized disposable gloves, and other critical materials. These supplies are expected to greatly aid the hospital in providing quality care to its patients, addressing some of the immediate needs in Liberia’s healthcare system.

This initiative, however, is not just a one-time contribution. The partnership between the Liberia Trade and Investment Office in Canada and Atlas Cargo is intended to evolve into a long-term assistance program. The focus will extend beyond the initial donation to include further supplies of medical equipment, facility renovations, logistical support, and workforce capacity building.

Jallahqueena Hawa Konneh, the Representative of the Liberia Trade & Investment Office in Canada, shared her personal experience following a visit to JFK Memorial Hospital, where she was given a comprehensive tour by the hospital’s CEO, Dr. Linda Birch.

“I had the privilege of touring the JFK Memorial Hospital, led by Dr. Birch, and was provided with an in-depth overview of the hospital’s current state,” said Konneh. “We’ve been discussing the many urgent needs of the hospital and how our office can contribute towards creating a sustainable partnership, moving beyond ‘band-aid’ solutions.”

Discussions are ongoing to establish various fundraising initiatives, including a campaign titled “A Diaspora Christmas Gift,” which will target specific units within the hospital. The aim is to garner widespread support from the Liberian diaspora and other potential donors.

In addition to securing medical supplies, Konneh highlighted efforts to foster investor relations partnerships for JFK Memorial Hospital. Dr. Linda Birch and the Liberia Trade and Investment Office in Canada are working closely to attract further investment that will benefit the hospital in the long term.

“This development marks a significant milestone in Liberia’s efforts to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure, with hopes that this collaboration will inspire similar initiatives across the country”. ~ Madam Jallahqueena Hawa Konneh~
